North Sea Port Drives Revenues and Efficiencies With Innovative IoT Platform

September 9, 2019

A leading European port is streamlining ship registrations with a Dell Boomi-powered system that improves revenue, cash flow and safety.

North Sea Port, a private company that operates three harbors in the Netherlands and Belgium handling 50,000 cargo ships a year, is focused on improving operational efficiencies, strengthening safety, driving digital transformation and increasing collaboration in the European port community.

The port, ranked #10 in shipping volume in Europe, saw an opportunity for streamlining and automating ship registration by harnessing IoT data.

With the help of Nalta, a Netherlands-based IT consultancy, and Dell Boomi, North Sea Port was able to create a first-of-its-kind system and realize measurable results, including:

  • Increased ship registrations by 25 percent, driving new revenue
  • Reduced invoicing from weeks to hours, speeding cash flow
  • Eliminated 40 hours a week of manual work
  • Strengthened port safety and security

"The Harmony app with Boomi as its foundation shows the value of innovating with modern technology like IoT to drive better business outcomes."

— Rick van Sluijs, IT Manager, North Sea Port
